Project coordinator for project on women and agriculture in Benin

The project will be implemented in five of Benin’s districts (départements) and it is expected to reach out to approximately 50.000 women and their families.

Project financement comes from the telethon ’Danmarks Indsamling 2010’, under the headline ”The women of Africa – the future of Africa”. The target group of the project are women in the rural areas of Benin and focus is on improving the women’s possibilities for generating income from agriculture and food production. The project will be implemented in collaboration with relevant local authorities and partner organisations.

The project is expected to commence by mid 2010. The project coordinator will be based at BØRNEfonden-Benin’s national office in Cotonou, with technical backstopping from the programme department in BØRNEfonden’s head office in Copenhagen.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the formulation of the project document and LogFrame
• Implement the project in collaboration with BØRNEfonden-Benin’s national office and its ’Development Units’ in the rural areas, as well as with other relevant partners; local authorities, NGO’s, research institutions etc.  
• Plan, coordinate and execute project activities
• Budget expenditure plus continuous follow-up
• Monitor and report to BØRNEfonden’s head office and other relevant actors
• Guide and supervise project staff
• Participate in relevant national networks
• Provide input for communication initiatives concerning the project, in Denmark and Benin

 Qualifications

• Fluency in written and spoken French and English
• Work experience from West Africa
• Strong experience within the project theme, i.e. African smallholder agriculture and food production, more specifically issues of storage, processing and marketing as well as working with women and women’s groups
• Proven record in project management, including project steering, reporting, monitoring, budget expenditure and follow-up
• Work experience from networking and collaboration with ministries, local authorities and NGO’s
• Relevant university degree
• Strong analytical skills
• Ability to collaborate, share knowledge and seek solutions

 We offer

·         Three-year contract with possibility for extension for an extra year

·         Accommodation, payment of establishment and repatriation expenditures, insurance according to Børnefonden’s regulations

·         Start date: February 2010 or soon thereafter
